Tokyo 2020 Green Olympic Games
Did you know that 30% of the next Olympic Torch will be made from recycled aluminium?
Whilst the athletes in 2021 will be competing for their Olympic titles, Tokyo is on its way to becoming the first Olympic Games in the modern world to be zero-carbon. And they are doing it through the use of solar power technology.
Keeping the title of Tokyo 2020, the city has laid out multiple projects linked to their five sustainability themes for the Games. Both temporary and permanent buildings are having renewable energy systems installed, including:
- solar power
- solar heat
- a renewable electric grid
- geothermal heating/cooling systems
This ensures that 100% of their venue’s electricity will be obtained through renewable energy.
Japan is focusing on reaching its renewable energy goals through technological advancements. They’ve even started to develop solar roads in Tokyo that in current plans, may be extended to further areas of the city.
The team at Kakapo Energy is very excited to see the world’s first eco-friendly Olympic Games next year!
